The Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, was commemorated across St. Mary’s School, Mumbai, through prayer, reflection and service. The celebrations brought together students, teachers, staff and members of the Jesuit community, highlighting the Ignatian ideals of faith, compassion, excellence and being “men and women for others.”
The school's Pre-Primary Section marked the occasion on 30th July through an activity inspired by the call to be “men for others.” Guided by their teachers and supported by their parents, the young Marians created posters depicting everyday acts of kindness, such as helping their families, assisting at home and caring for their grandparents.
On 29th July, the school auditorium hosted a special programme featuring a welcome, ceremonial lamp lighting and a prayer for the Jesuit community. Students presented “Living the Ignatian Way,” a play portraying faith, service, discernment and empathy. The gathering also joined in singing “Noble Knight,” while the Jesuit Fathers were felicitated for their contribution to education and the formation of young minds.
Students and staff also visited the sick and elderly Jesuit priests at Arrupe Niwas, sharing songs, the School Anthem and handmade greeting cards. The visit brought the principles of Cura Personalis and Magis to life, encouraging students to practise care, gratitude and service.
The celebrations culminated on 31st July with a Eucharistic celebration at St. Anne’s Church, celebrated by Fr. Conrad Pesso, S.J. In his homily, he reflected on St. Ignatius’ legacy and encouraged everyone to strive for the greater glory of God. The celebration concluded with fellowship for the staff of St. Mary’s ICSE and SSC.
