Honouring the joy, innocence and brilliance of its young students, St. Xavier’s School, Durgapur, celebrated Children’s Day with great enthusiasm and heartfelt warmth. The programme began with a cheerful welcome by the Master of Ceremonies, who extended greetings to the students, the teachers, Reverend Fathers and special guests from Moldanga Education Centre. The guests were felicitated with tilak and flowers, marking a gracious beginning to the event.
A prayer service led by the teachers’ choir set a serene tone for the day. This was followed by an inspiring address by Ms Priyadarshini, who encouraged students to uphold values of respect, kindness and empathy. Teachers then presented a soulful tri-lingual medley, showcasing their affection for the children.
The celebration grew livelier with the arrival of the special guest performer — Abir and Friends, a popular musical band known for their viral hit Oporadhi and their melodious contributions dedicated to Durgapur. Their captivating performance was met with resounding applause. The School’s Principal, Rev. Fr. Zenith William SJ, and Vice Principal, Rev. Fr. Thomas Varghese SJ, honoured the performers with uttorios.
The underprivileged students of Moldanga Education Centre were also felicitated with tokens of love, symbolising a budding bond between the two institutions. The event continued with the prize distribution ceremony for the Nature Club Eco-Contests held in June, recognising young environmental enthusiasts from Classes 3 to 10.
A heartfelt message of gratitude was delivered by Master Nihar Das of Class 10, following which Rev. Fr. Zenith William SJ proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded on a patriotic note, commemorating 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram. The significance of this historic composition was highlighted, reminding students of its role in India’s freedom struggle. The eventful day ended with smiles, music, inspiration and a renewed spirit of unity —truly celebrating the heart of childhood.
